My mother would start cooking bone broath soup first thing in the morning, letting it simmer all day until what began as a tough, gristly piece of meat became soft and mushy by dinnertime.
Little did I know that I was consuming a bone broth concoction regularly.
To this day, I dislike that dish because it was served so frequently.
Interestingly, bone broth has a long history, dating back to the Middle Ages when it was known as “restaurant,” a kind of restorative broth, and in Britain as “beef tea.” Growing up, beef consommΓ©, which is essentially bone broth, was considered a delicacy in fancy restaurants, often served chilled as a gelatinous bowl of beef flavor.
Scientifically, bone broth is a great source of amino acids like glutamine, which is beneficial for gut health.
However, it’s important to note that consuming collagen doesn’t guarantee it will be used to produce collagen in the body.
