A Taste of Bangladeshi Sweets

Our cuisine is rich with many spices. We have various appetizing foods, snacks, and sweets.

Boiled rice is our main food, served with a variety of vegetables, curry, lentil soups, fish, and meat. Our main source of protein is fish.

Hilsha is a very popular fish in our country, and we are famous for it.

Panta ilish is very popular in our country, especially at the time of Pahela Baishakh (Bengali New Year). It is served with steamed rice (soaked in water overnight) and in the morning served with Hilsha (Hilsa is a type of freshwater fish) slices, often together with dried fish, pickles, lentil soup, green chilies, and onion. No one dislikes this dish.

Moreover, we are very fond of sweets. Almost everyone likes traditional sweets.

Sweets are distributed among close relatives during good news like births, weddings, promotions, etc. Sweets in Bangladesh are mostly milk-based. Common ones include roshgolla, sandesh, rasamalai, gulap jamun, kalo jamun, and chom-chom.

Everyone loves sweets a lot and considers them an important part of their daily lives.
